This Texas high school football field has a bone to pick.

San Saba High School plays on top of a confirmed burial ground at Rogan Field.

The plot used to be a cemetery for Civil War soldiers, until the city repurposed the land for a fairground.

The project removed many of the bodies and relocated them. But a portion of the tombstones and gravesites went unclaimed.

Texas high school football has some scary places to play

But there are legends about San Saba that indicate its field may be the most frightening that Texas high school football has to offer.

Some claim that bones still pop up out of the turf from time to time.

That’s the kind of home-field advantage you just can’t beat. A literal 12th man, from beyond the bulldozed grave.

The locals call Rogan Field ‘The Graveyard.’

You gotta love how they just lean into it.

Imagine you are a visiting football player rolling up to this gate on a crisp October evening

Leaves rustle and rattle on the pavement in front of you. There’s a mist in the air and the cold sinks into your socks. It’s a full moon.

The wind chills you to your bones. And in a few minutes, you will play on top of them.

What’s your call in the coin toss?

*gulp*

Heads, please.

Whether Rogan Field is haunted or not, it’s difficult to beat the lore of high school football fields like this

It’s what makes the sport so great.

You never know what hijinks and absurdity you’ll witness on a Friday night in the fall.

San Saba plays at the Bangs Dragons this Friday the 13th, but it’s on the road, unfortunately.

A home game win would have been a lock.
