When you’re a high school basketball player, there’s a bucket list (no pun intended) of things you want to accomplish in an actual game.
Sink a game-winning three.
Slap the floor with both hands on defense.
Bank shot a free throw, and shout ‘Called glass!’ even if you didn’t call glass.
Ok, I never played high school basketball.
But even I know that another one of the things on that bucket list would be to slam dunk in a basketball game.
And high school basketball player Zundra Jackson not only did that in his AAU summer game.
He broke the whole dang backboard, son. And the gym went absolutely nuts.
Somebody get a broom. This ain’t a Nuggets sweep over the Lakers. It’s way more entertaining.
Watch the video below to hear what it may have sounded like on 740 The Pylon, your source for Coffeetown sports:
I asked Zundra what it was like to accomplish that in a game, because I will never know anything similar to that feeling in my life.
I dunked one time in a pickup basketball game. If memory serves correctly (no guarantees here), it was a nine foot goal.
The momentum of my lower body pulled my hands off of the rim, and table-topped my head and shoulder onto the pavement below.
I told you I couldn’t guarantee anything about my memory serving me.
The only thing breaking when I dunk a basketball is me. Certainly not a backboard.
Maybe if I run in to a very low-hanging chandelier, I will be fortunate enough to feel that cascade of glistening plexiglass as it pelts my head.
“I can’t really compare it to anything,” Jackson told me.
Clearly, he’s never run into any low-hanging chandeliers.
“It felt like it exploded. Like it was a bomb or something.”
No, Zundra. It wasn’t a bomb
But this unlikely May basketball highlight will start your summer off with a bang.
Jackson plays football and basketball for Chattanooga Christian. He’ll be a senior this upcoming fall.
That backboard belonged to Ridgeland High School, however.
Hope the insurance policy covers basketball goals.
How else is anyone supposed to practice their bank-shot free throws on that end of the court?
